I’m sure you have heard much about the use of AI and possibly heard the name ChatGPT. So what is it and what can it do for you?
What is ChatGPT?
Quite simply AI tools like ChatGPT are programs that cobble together the english language (or whatever language you want) into plausable sentences based on information it scraped together off the internet…so, a bit like some consultants! (only joking 😉 )
There is actually a lot more to it than that. The smarts that are involved can be hugely beneficial and time saving…so, a bit like some consultants!

What can I use it for?
Lets say you employ quite a few relief milkers and want to create a straight forward protocol for them to follow and refer to on top of the on-the-job training.
In ChatGPT you could type something like “Please create a protocol for the milking routine of my dairy cows. It should be suitable for a new staff member”. In the blink or nervous twitch of an eye it would churn out something like the below.
Give it a go. Whilst the result might not be 100% what you want (some of it is udder utter rubbish) you can copy and paste it into word and craft it into what you want. Ultimately, it can save you a shed load of time on originating documents.
Now, lets say you want to write a job advert to attract new relief milkers. You could write something like the below and with much relief, you have probably 80% of what you need.
A key thing to remember is: the more specific you are in your questions, the better the answers are likely to be.
Also, if you don’t like the first answer it gives you, hit the ‘Regenarate’ button. This unfortunately doesn’t instantly improve the soils on your farm, nor does it improve wildlife and biodiversity (It’s not that kind of Regen), but it does have a second and mostly better attempt at creating what you want.
A word of caution!
There is much talk of AI being too smart for our own good. It could take over the world and wipe us out. It certainly is clever, but it can make some real howlers! It needs your experience to fact check whatever it generates.
Also, given that it could take over the world, always use ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when asking it things…just in case!
Final word: Other AI models are available like Google’s Bard sytem. If you feel adventurous have a look at that one too.
