The Dairy Club is the personal blog of James Hague.
The Club is designed to freely share information and tools that have been developed over many years in the industry.
I was fortunate to work in dairy research with ADAS (Bridgets) and then with Kingshay. This was a great experience working with a community of like minded farmers and collegues who’s ambition was to challenge the possibilities across all aspects of the dairy business.
I have worked with a wide range of farmers, researchers and sales teams in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. What I have enjoyed the most is working with those that value challenging the system to be better.
Dairy is an amazing enterprise that has seen tremendous progress by those that accept the challenge to change. There is still very much more that we can do. The volatility we see in milk, feed and other input prices means that fully understanding the key levers that drive a business has never been more important.
Over the years I have built a number of tools to help farmers look at their business differently. The main one is Tracker. Tracker models milk production week by week and compares actual milk yield and components against this. There have now been over 1,500 farms through Tracker inh the last 11 years and it has helped highlight nutritional and management opportunities to achive improved margins across those farms.
Tracker is a total farm solution with feed planning, dairy costings, ration program, forage and individual cow analysis. It is currently used in NZ by GrainCorp. The team there do a great job in helping farmers make feed work profitably. You can check out more on Tracker here.
As part of Dairy Club, I will be making some tools freely available others will be available to subscribers (first tier membership is free). I hope you find the articles and tools useful and challenging.
