Grazing Calculator

The grazing calculator below provides a handy quick check on the daily grazing allowance.

Enter the number of cows in the grazing mob, set your desired Dry Matter Intake (DMI) from grass, and then estimate the likely utilization rate.

Most of the time throughout the grazing season, utilization will be around the 85% mark. In wet weather or where grass has gone stemmy, utilization will drop. Due to utilization not being 100%, you will need to offer more grass than you are aiming to target.

Set your opening and closing covers to determine the available grass per hectare. You will now have the hectares you need. For those who prefer acres, this is also given.

If you have large paddocks to graze and need to split with an electric fence, set the paddock width and the calculator will work out the length of the break.

If splitting the daily area into two or more grazings, use the ‘Split Grazing Required’ slider to set how many hectares (or acres) you would like to feed in each grazing session.

The calculator also has a handy THI calculator to quickly check the effects of temperature and humidity on production.
